WanderNotes 1.57.0

Show the assistant a picture: attach images to a conversation. Plus faster first replies, sidebar and search results that open beside what you're reading, and keyboard shortcuts that match what the app says they are.

22 September 2026

Until now, a conversation could only take text. In 1.57 you can hand the assistant a screenshot, a photo or a diagram and ask about it. The rest of the release works on how the desktop layout behaves: opening something from the sidebar or from search no longer replaces what you were reading, splitting a panel works again, and the keyboard shortcut list now matches the keys that actually do things. This note covers 1.57.0 through 1.57.2.

✨ What's new

  • Attach images to a conversation. The composer has a paperclip button next to the model, reasoning and web search menus. You can also drag images straight onto the composer. PNG, JPEG and WebP images up to 5MB are accepted. Anything else gets a notice that says why, and SVGs get their own message asking you to export them as PNG first. Each image appears as a chip with a thumbnail and a progress bar while it uploads. If an upload fails, the chip shows Upload failed with a retry button, and any chip can be removed before you send. You can send images with no text at all.

🚀 Improvements

  • Faster first replies. Kimi K3 and DeepSeek V4 Flash now run at low reasoning effort. Previously the provider defaulted them to much higher effort, so the models meant to be quick were among the slowest and most expensive to run. Signed-in pages also now render in the browser rather than on the server first.

  • Longer conversations keep more of the thread. The assistant used to see only your last ten messages. It now keeps the full conversation until it reaches a size limit, then drops the oldest parts first. Notes the assistant writes from a conversation are drawn from the whole thread, not just the last ten messages.

  • The sidebar and search open things beside what you're reading. On desktop, clicking a note or conversation in the sidebar, or picking one from search (⌘K / Ctrl+K), opens it in a new panel next to the active one instead of replacing it. If it's already open, that panel is focused instead of a second copy opening. The limit is still five panels.

  • Your app shortcuts work while typing a message. New note, new conversation, split, close, graph view and the rest now work with the cursor in the conversation composer, the same way they already did in the note editor.

  • The right layout from the first frame. Whether to show the mobile or desktop layout is now guessed from your device on the first request, so the page no longer loads in the wrong layout and then switches.

🐛 Fixes

  • Split active panel works again. ⌘\ / Ctrl+\ opens a second copy of the active panel next to it. After the change that focuses an already-open item, splitting just refocused the same panel. It now always makes a new one, up to five panels.

  • The shortcut list matches the real keys. The list shown when no panels are open said ⌘\ toggled the sidebar and ⌘I split a panel. It now shows Toggle sidebar as ⌘/ and Split active panel as ⌘, which are the keys that do those things (Ctrl on Windows and Linux).

  • Shift+Tab switches panels. It was on the shortcut list but did nothing. It now moves focus to the next open panel and wraps around after the last one.

  • A first message that gets no reply offers a retry. If your opening message ends without a response, the conversation now shows "Something went wrong." with a Retry button instead of an empty thread.

  • Deleting a conversation deletes its images. Removing a conversation also removes the images uploaded to it from storage. Uploads that were started but never finished are cleaned up after an hour.

  • Pasting HTML source from an editor embeds the source. Copying an .html file out of an editor such as VS Code and pasting it into a note could embed the editor's syntax-highlighted copy instead of the file itself. The note now embeds the source you copied.
