WanderNotes 1.55.0

Tell the assistant who you are and how you like to be answered, once, from a new Assistant tab in your profile — plus Tab that stays in the editor and a tidier landing page.

13 September 2026

Until now, every conversation started from zero: if you wanted short answers, or wanted the assistant to know what you work on, you had to say so again each time. 1.55 gives you a place to say it once. Your profile has a new Assistant tab, and whatever you put there goes with every message you send. The note editor also got some keyboard fixes, and the landing page was tidied. This note covers 1.55.0 through 1.55.1.

✨ What's new

  • Standing preferences for the assistant. Your profile now has an Assistant tab with four fields: What should the assistant call you? (up to 60 characters), About you (what you work on, up to 500), a Tone choice, and Additional instructions (up to 1,400). The two longer fields show a character counter. Click Save Changes and your preferences apply from your next message in any conversation, new or existing. If you leave everything blank, the assistant behaves as it did before.

  • Pick a tone. The Tone choices are Default, Concise (short, answer first, no preamble), Detailed (thorough, with worked reasoning and examples), Formal, and Friendly. Default leaves the assistant's usual style alone.

  • Preferences shape replies, not tools. Your preferences change how the assistant writes, not what it does. It still only creates a note when you ask it to, even if your additional instructions say otherwise.

🚀 Improvements

  • One profile page, with tabs. /profile now opens straight to the profile page instead of redirecting to /profile/management. A tab bar at the top switches between Profile, Security, and Assistant, and the URL keeps track of the tab you're on. The profile panel on desktop shows the same page. Sign out has moved below the page, and it still asks you to confirm. The About and Releases buttons were removed from the profile; you can still reach both from the landing page.

  • The assistant is upfront when web search is off. If you set search to Off, the assistant now tells you when an answer about a library or framework comes from memory that may be out of date, and says which version it assumed. With Always, it answers from the search results attached to your message.

  • Tab stays in the editor. Tab and Shift-Tab still indent lists, move between table cells, and nest tasks. When none of those apply, for example in a plain paragraph or on the first item of a list, the key now does nothing. It used to move focus out of the note.

  • Tab indents inside code blocks. Tab inserts two spaces in a code block, and a new Text option in the language list lets you mark a block as plain text.

  • Room to keep typing after tables and task lists. Notes now keep an empty line after a table or task list at the end of the note, so you can click below it and carry on writing.

  • A tidier landing page. The Releases and About links now sit inside the opening section and scroll away with it, instead of floating over every section. The "how it works" steps and the closing call to action are a size smaller.

  • Two shortcuts removed. The Image command is gone from the slash menu, and Shift-Tab no longer cycles between open panels, so the editor keeps that key.

  • Named browser tabs for About and Releases. These pages now show "About | WanderNotes" and "Releases | WanderNotes" in the browser tab.

🐛 Fixes

  • Enter works when the slash menu has no matches. If you typed / followed by text that matched no command, pressing Enter threw an error instead of starting a new line. It now starts a new line. The arrow keys also stay within the filtered list.

  • Line numbers match code lines. The line numbers beside a code block could drift out of step with the code. The code and the numbers now use the same font size and line height.
